Basic Street Smarts
- Look both ways before you cross the street
- Stay away from dark and secluded areas
- Periodically check behind you when walking alone, but don't look scared.
- When entering your car, look under the car and in the backseat.
- When you enter your car, immediately close the door and lock the car. Don't wait too long in the car before starting to drive.
- When buying used things online, go with a friend and tell others where you're going.
- When meeting for a date, meet first during daylight in a public place with other people.
- If you hear a random crying baby outside, don't go outside and call the cops. It may be a lure.
- Elevators are usually safer than stairwells. When you get it, press the close door button immediately.
- If you are being robbed and have no choice but to give your stuff, throw the stuff in a different direction and run.
- Get a keychain alarm
- Carry a card with essential phone numbers and the initials they belong to, so you can use another phone in case of an emergency. Example: GVG 555-123-9876, MC 555-987-1234
- Learn how to avoid scams.
