Scoliosis
Scoliosis is an unnatural side-to-side curving of the spine. It is often diagnosed between the ages of 10-14.
Symptoms
- Uneven shoulders
- One side of the hip being higher than the other
- One side of the ribs jutting forward
- Bending forward causes one side of your back to poke out
To treat it, there are many different approaches based on the severity of the curve.
The best thing to do is to treat it early. Some methods you can do at home are
- Wear a prescribed scoliosis back brace. There are many types
- Do Schroth Method exercises
- In severe cases, surgery may be needed.
Schroth Method exercises
- Sit up straight, and hold your head up as if your head is moving upwards and pulling on your spine. For further progression, do it while sitting still on a medicine/therapy ball
- Hang from monkey bars/pull-up bars. Make sure you are hanging straight
